This passage discusses the classical seven one sided interpretations of the gzhi (based on Prajñāpāramitā literature), each of which limits one's understanding of it to a particular intellectual framework. This is illustrated by the old Jain story (used with reference to their syadvāda or "perspectivism" doctrine) of the seven blind men touching an elephant (on this simile, see also Shing rta chen po {116031:327.2} for a Buddhist source, namely the Gsang rgyas kyi snying po'i mdo).
