Modern Newar version

1. to cause to shine, to illuminate 2. to polish: vaṃ lībātā buyāḥ thīkala. He polished the brass pot 3. to season, to add to the taste: māmaṃ lāy jī thīkala. Mother seasoned the meat with cummin. 4. to cause to touch; thīkā taye {fig.} to keep s.th. up, to cause to be honoured: imisaṃ bvāyāgu nāṃ thikā tala. They kept up their father's reputation.
