A famous Bön lama, born in 1700. He and his teacher sangs rgyas gling pa (b. 1705) were active in rgyal rong, and acted as the royal preceptors for the kings of bstan lha, rab brtan, and khro chen. kun grol is particularly renowned for his work with the Bön canon: he supervised the production of woodblock editions of the canon for the rab brtan and khro chen houses. He also wrote a well-known catalog of the canon, based on the manuscript edition produced by kun dga' nor bu of khro chen. The catalog written by kun grol (entitled nyi ma 'bum gyi 'od zer) is one of the standard references for determining which works are included in the Bön canon; it is considered the more liberal standard, for its inclusion of syncretic Bön/Nyingma works.
